Lost or Stolen Card

The Brown ID Card should be protected in the same manner a credit or debit card would be protected. Lock your Brown ID card if you think it is lost or stolen, do not wait -- protect yourself and the Brown community.

Ways to lock your Brown ID Card:

Staff, Faculty, Students, & Affiliates with a MyBrown Account (i.e - sponsored ids, Jcb fellows)

  • Lock and Unlock your Brown ID card either via MyAccount (myaccount.brown.edu) or through the MyBrown portal (my.brown.edu).

    • MyAccount - Click “Lock/Unlock Brown ID Card” in the top right corner.

    • My.Brown - Click on your user icon in the top right corner and select “Lock/Unlock Brown ID”.

Students (important note): 

  • Students can receive a temporary Courtesy Card for dormitory access by visiting Brown Public Safety (75 Charlesfield Street) upon providing positive proof of identification.

  • If you are unable to use the online services,

    • During regular business hours (8:30 am - 5:00 pm), notify the Brown Card Office (69 Brown Street, Suite 511) at 401-863-2273. Once notified, the Brown Card Office will lock the Brown ID Card, preventing others from utilizing Building Access and Bear Bucks associated with it.

    • During non-business hours, notify Brown Public Safety (75 Charlesfield Street) at 401-863-3322.  Students can receive a temporary Courtesy Card for dormitory access upon providing positive proof of identification.

All Others Cardholders (Alumni, Contractors)

  • If you are unable to use the online services,

    • During regular business hours (8:30 am - 5:00 pm), notify the Brown Card Office (69 Brown Street, Suite 511) at 401-863-2273. Once notified, the Brown Card Office will lock the Brown ID Card, preventing others from utilizing Building Access.

    • During non-business hours, notify Brown Public Safety (75 Charlesfield Street) at 401-863-3322.  

After reporting a card missing or stolen, you may replace your Brown Card by visiting the Brown Card Office during regular business hours. In order to obtain a new card, the cardholder must provide positive proof of identification (state-issued ID, driver's license, or passport, etc.).
